For me, capturing beautiful images of our planet is mostly about the light. I can also sincerely say this about every other aspect of photography I am involved in, however this principle certainly applies in producing Landscape and Fine Art images. I am always inspired when I encounter a beautiful scene - it compels me to try my very best to capture that scene in the best available light so that others can enjoy the emotion, enthusiasm and the vision I felt on that particular day.
To begin with, it’s all about planning. This might mean I need to research at what time the sun will come up, from what angle, how the weather will affect the image, if the tide will be high, if the moon will be up, when I need to be at the location or even when I need to set my alarm.
There’s an incredible amount of satisfaction that can be derived when a plan comes together. I’m sure you’ve had that same feeling. I’ve certainly had it whilst sitting on top of a mountain by myself in Taiwan watching the most incredible sunrise, complete with a cloud inversion below me. I’ve also had that same feeling after climbing another mountain in the heart of China and witnessing a sky full of stars with the entire scene in front of me being lit only by the moon with a winding river meandering through the shot. I’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled to many places around the planet and none excite me or inspire me more than shooting in my own ‘backyard’ of Sydney.
So feel free to have a browse around the site here. Click on any of the images below to go directly to the Fine Art gallery. I’m sure if you want to purchase any of the images in there, you’ll feel the same emotion I felt when I was there with the camera on that unique day.
